Unlock Cat Care at D.G. Level 12, finish the cat onboarding route first, then add dogs, pet food routines, Oak-Oak, and animal-favorite tracking as separate systems.

Quick Dog Food Answer

For adoptable dogs, Dog Food from Mrs. Joan is the safest daily feed. It is the best starting point because it is simple, repeatable, and not based on guesses.

Favorite foods are different. Community notes still do not prove one perfect favorite food for every dog, so treat dog favorites as a small test project for your own pets.

For wild and farm animals, favorite foods are more stable. Foxes like meat and some fish, sea otters like shrimp and shells, chickens like corn, and cows like fresh grass or wheat.

Pet Systems At A Glance

Cats + Dogs

Mrs. Joan's pet route

This is the main adoption path. Reach D.G. Level 12, start Cat Care, then unlock dogs after the cat intro.

Oak-Oak

Forest companion route

Oak-Oak is tied to the Astralis Forest line, not the town pet shop. It gives Roaming Oak Timber.

Animals

Favorite-food route

Wild and farm animals use their own food list. Do not mix those favorites into dog-care rules.

Pet Adoption Route

The clean route is simple: unlock the hobby, finish the first cat flow, then expand into dogs and Oak-Oak only when you need those systems.

Clean Unlock Path

  1. 1
    D.G. 12

    Reach D.G. Level 12

This unlocks Mrs. Joan's Pet Shop and the Cat Care hobby.

    • Keep doing story quests and daily resident requests.
    • Save some gold for pet supplies.
  2. 2
    Cat

    Start Cat Care

Visit Mrs. Joan near the town center and begin the cat adoption tutorial.

    • Choose a cat first.
    • Follow the care prompts in order.
  3. 3
    Dog

    Add Dogs Later

Dog adoption becomes a steady branch after the cat introduction is complete.

    • Use Dog Food as the baseline.
    • Test extra foods only when you can track the results.
  4. 4
    Forest

    Handle Oak-Oak Separately

Oak-Oak belongs to the Astralis Forest quest line, so do not wait for Mrs. Joan to unlock it.

    • Follow forest quests when they mention Astralis or roaming timber.
    • Collect Roaming Oak Timber for nature-themed crafting.

Keep the three animal systems separate when planning: cats and dogs come through Mrs. Joan, Oak-Oak comes from the forest quest line, and wild or farm animal feeding uses its own favorite-food logic.

Available Companions

Cat

Cats

Adoptable companions from the Pet Care hobby. Cat Care unlocks at D.G. Level 12 through Mrs. Joan.

Dog

Dogs

Adoptable companions after the cat-care introduction. Dog reactions were expanded in version 0.4.2.

Oak-Oak

Oak-Oak

A wandering forest companion from the Astralis route. It provides daily Roaming Oak Timber.

Cats and dogs can reward gold, Wish Stars, pet XP, and cosmetic progress. Oak-Oak is mainly valuable because of Roaming Oak Timber for nature-themed furniture and decoration crafting.

Dog Food And Test Foods

Animal Favorite Foods

Favorite foods can give better heart gains than ordinary feeding. For wild and farm animals, favorites can give 2 Hearts instead of 1, which helps friendship grow faster and may improve product quality.

How To Adopt Cats And Dogs

Reach D.G. Level 12, then visit Mrs. Joan near the town center. Her Pet Shop introduces adoption, care tasks, pet food, and daily routines.

Choose a cat first because the cat-care tutorial is the gate. Once that introduction is complete, dog adoption and dog-care testing become available.

Before You Adopt

  • Reach D.G. Level 12.
  • Visit Mrs. Joan's Pet Shop near the town center.
  • Choose a cat before planning dog care.
  • Place or prepare a pet bowl at home.
  • Keep spare pet food and toys in storage.

Pet Care And Leveling

Pet Care behaves like a hobby loop. Feeding, petting, and playing with companions raises pet XP and unlocks level rewards over time.

Daily

Feed, pet, and play

Small daily actions keep XP moving without turning pet care into a long chore.

Rewards

Level rewards

Pet levels can reward gold, Wish Stars, and cosmetic unlocks.

Relax

Pets do not leave

Skipping care slows XP and rewards, but adopted pets remain available.

Daily Pet Routine

  • Check whether your pet is hungry before using food.
  • Feed Dog Food when you want a simple dog route.
  • Pet and play with companions for steady XP.
  • Collect Oak-Oak's Roaming Oak Timber when that route is unlocked.
  • Write down food tests so you do not repeat failed guesses.

Oak-Oak

Oak-Oak is a special forest companion connected to the Astralis route. Its main value is daily Roaming Oak Timber, which is used for nature-styled furniture and decoration crafting.

Do not wait for Mrs. Joan to solve Oak-Oak progression. If the task mentions forest, roaming timber, or Astralis, follow the forest quest line instead.

Clothing And Interactions

Mrs. Joan’s shop can provide pet outfits, collars, bowls, toys, and related care items. Pets can react to emotes, follow you through activities, and use more interaction behavior as their care route opens up.

For dogs, remember that reaction behavior changed with version 0.4.2. If an old note conflicts with your current client, trust the current client.

Shop

Mrs. Joan's supplies

Check for bowls, toys, collars, outfits, and pet food when you are already in town.

Track

Food notes

Keep a tiny list of foods tested on each dog. One clear note beats five half-remembered guesses.

Forest

Oak-Oak timber

If you need nature-style furniture, add the forest companion route to your daily check.

Troubleshooting

The feed icon is missing

The feed icon appears when a pet is hungry. If you fed the pet recently, wait a few in-game hours and check the pet status again.

The pet bowl is missing

Check whether the bowl is in storage, placed at home, craftable at the workbench, or purchasable from Mrs. Joan. It is easy to own one without having it placed.

A training quest will not complete

Confirm that the pet has enough energy, follow the prompt timing exactly, and restart the game if the quest log desyncs. Persistent issues are worth reporting with platform and reproduction steps.

A pet is stuck at zero energy

Pet energy can recover over real time, not just game time. Fully close and reopen the game, then check whether the pet needs food before another action. If energy stays wrong after a restart, treat it as a sync bug.

A pet clips through a wall or floor

Move to another room or outside, call the pet from the pet menu, or reload the game. In most cases the pet is visually stuck, not permanently lost.

Dog treasure seeking does not work

Treasure seeking can have cooldowns and location rules. Try it outdoors where items can appear, make sure you have not used it recently, and check again after raising dog-care levels.

Cat-care progress does not register after feeding

The tutorial may expect the hungry state first. Wait until the cat becomes hungry again, then feed it once more.

Common Pet Questions

When does Cat Care unlock?

Cat Care unlocks at D.G. Level 12 through Mrs. Joan.

When do dogs unlock?

Dogs unlock after the cat-care tutorial is complete.

What can dogs eat?

Dog Food is the safest baseline. Some players test simple cooked dishes for breed-specific reactions, but one universal dog favorite list is not reliable.

Do all dogs share the same favorite food?

Not reliably. Community data suggests dog reactions can differ, so treat favorites as a test-and-track system instead of assuming one list works for every dog.

What is Roaming Oak Timber for?

Roaming Oak Timber is a crafting material used for nature-themed furniture and decorations.

Do pets leave if care is skipped?

No. Skipping care slows XP and rewards, but adopted pets remain available.
