Fast Answer
Instruments let you play music at home or with friends. The source guide highlights the Piano, the Lute, and Sheet Music. The Piano is available from the 7-day sign-in route on Day 3, while the Lute unlocks the Sheet Music system through Vernie’s quest.
Heartopia uses numbered notation, also called Jianpu. Numbers 1 through 7 map to the C Major scale.
Free on sign-in Day 3
Log in for 3 days to claim a free Piano, then buy more styles from Annie's Music Store.
Vernie's quest

Annie sells music
After the feature unlocks, visit Annie's Music Store for songs such as Fur Elise and Canon.
Multiplayer jams
Friends can hear your performance in real time when they visit or play near you.
Getting Instruments
| Instrument | How To Get It | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Piano | 7-day sign-in reward on Day 3; extra styles from Annie’s Music Store | Easy first instrument and good for chords |
| Lute | Finish Vernie’s Astralis in Flower Field quest | Portable and opens the Sheet Music route |
| Other instruments | Buy or craft later styles when available | Changes the sound and look of your performance |
The instrument sound depends on the furniture or instrument you use. A piano sounds like a piano; a guitar-style instrument sounds different.
Unlock Sheet Music
You cannot use Sheet Music immediately. Unlock the feature first.
- Go to the Flower Field.
- Find Vernie, the bard NPC.
- Accept and complete Astralis in Flower Field.
- Receive the Scholar’s Lute.
- Unlock the Instrument & Music Score app in Daily Life Guide on your smartwatch.
- Visit Annie’s Music Store to buy scores.
Read Numbered Notation
Numbered notation uses numbers instead of note names. In the source guide, the basic mapping is the C Major scale.
| Number | Solfege | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Do | C |
| 2 | Re | D |
| 3 | Mi | E |
| 4 | Fa | F |
| 5 | Sol | G |
| 6 | La | A |
| 7 | Ti | B |
Dots change octave. A dot above the number means a higher octave. A dot below the number means a lower octave.
Auto-Play
If you own a Sheet Music item, sit at your piano, choose the song from the menu, and let your character play it automatically. This is useful for screenshots, videos, or a relaxed home visit.
Auto-play is not the same as learning the song by hand, but it is a great way to make your home feel alive.
Song Library
The source guide lists these official unlockable examples.
| Song | Difficulty | Source |

| Ode to Joy | 3 stars | Annie’s Shop |
| Fur Elise | 4 stars | Annie’s Shop |
| Canon in D | 5 stars | Annie’s Shop, higher level |

Common Questions
Can I play my own songs?
Yes. Use manual play and numbered notation. You are not limited to official Sheet Music.
Can friends hear the music?
Yes. Friends nearby or visiting your home can hear the performance.
How do I change the sound?
Use a different instrument or instrument-style furniture. The sound follows the instrument you are playing.
Do I need the Lute?
The source guide says the Lute quest is what unlocks the Sheet Music system, so do Vernie’s route even if you mainly want to play Piano.
